Product Description
Think Globally and Act Locally. Cotton made in Africa is a project that promotes the sustainable cultivation of African cotton to sell in products bearing the project’s name. Funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the goal of the project is to increase the income of African cotton farmers thereby increasing the overall quality of life for themselves and their children. The purchase of this 2ply ringspun, 30 by 58-inch bath towel in white, directly contributes to poverty reduction of more than 265,000 African farmers by creating sustainable trade rather than one time profit ma by imization. Additionally, these towels are manufactured in the USA by 1888 Mills, a leading te by tile manufacturer committed to environmental and social sustainability. 5 out of 5 stars Very plush towels   June 8, 2010

This is the nicest bath towel I've ever owned. I bought the white ones. Very attractive, plush, and absorbent. Plus, they are made in the USA from African cotton supported by the Gates foundation. No China-made crap here.

5 out of 5 stars Luxurious   June 6, 2010

I purchased this towel for my girlfriend. She is very selective about color, texture, lint, feel, etc. To me it looks like a thick, white, soft towel but she loves this towel above several others such highly rated from JCPenny, RLP, etc.

2 out of 5 stars Ordered 2 - Received one defective   May 14, 2010
S. Braitsch (San Francisco, CA)
These are actually really nice towels, and I agree with everyone citing how plush and water absorbent they are. I ordered two in the Moss color and one arrived with I think some kind of dust on it because when we washed it for the first time it came out of the washer completely discolored with areas of orange all over the towel. Now both towels were in the same load with the rest of our clothes and the other towel was absolutely fine. We used them both twice to towel off after the shower and then threw them in the wash. I think these are great towels and am considering ordering another pair but will probably shop around first. I would have returned the defective towel but for such lost cost item to deal with shipping and returning it isn't worth my time.. So our dog will probably inherit our new soft moss/orange towel.

5 out of 5 stars perfect towel!   May 5, 2010

I'm fussy about towels. I like them to stay dry and not get that slick, wet feeling that you get even with many high end towels.
These towels meet my criteria for soft and really absorbent and my husband really likes them also.
Plus they are made in the US, using African cotton, so that's a plus as far as I am concerned.
I would like a better color selection, but I just order the neutral colors and have really, really liked them.

1 out of 5 stars Orange spots showing up on the towels   April 12, 2010

I loved these towels when I first got them - especially since they supported sustainable cotton farming in Africa.

I started using the towels a couple of weeks after I purchased them. I used only 3 of the towels of the 4 towels and after only a few uses, started discovering orange spots on them. I washed them and they didn't come out - seems like a problem with the material. I took the 4th towel and made sure it only came in contact with clean water to see what would happen. The orange started showing up on that one as well.

There is clearly something wrong with the material of this towel to cause the orange stain. This has not happened to any of my other towels - new and old. All of the reviews have been great on this product so I'm not sure what happened with my towels - perhaps a bad batch.
